

Serving a mission in the Canada Montréal Mission was one of the greatest pre-marriage and motherhood gifts that I ever could have received! This photo is of me by the famous wall map at the MTC, while I was there being trained to be a missionary. I was at the MTC at the same time as my husband, from September-November 1990. We didn’t meet at the MTC, although he says he remembers seeing me there!
I mention this caveat about mission photos: I post them online in an expression of humility. During my mission I gained more weight than I ever have in my life (except for being pregnant!). I did a lot of sitting and a bit of eating of food that wasn’t my normal diet. Exercise was not built into the missionary schedule like it is today, even though I wished it were! We drove a lot because our mission was so large, and I wasn’t in “BMW” areas most of my mission (BMW=bike, metro, walk). So I was grateful that I could exercise and lose some weight after returning!
